‘Travel Your Way’ Photo Competition

‘Travel Your Way’ Photo Competition

I’ve decided to participate in the Rhino Car Hire ‘Travel Your Way’ photo competition because…well, why not?! While I’m not the best photographer, for the chance to win about $1500 towards my travels or a Sony NEX-3N Compact Camera System that’s worth about $600, it’s worth a shot – right?

So the challenge is for travel bloggers to submit their best photos of their travels by road, air, rail, and sea. So thinking outside of the box, here are my snaps…

By Road…

On our drive to Tillamook, my husband Jave and I decided to drive a little past the town to see if we could make it to any of the capes along the Three Capes Scenic Drive. Always short on time, we were only able to make it to the start of the drive to snap a picture of Cape Kiwanda from the road. I love this picture because it captures the beauty of Oregon’s coast and its frequently gloomy weather.

By air…

Finding a picture for this category was a bit of a challenge since I rarely take pictures while in an airplane. These pictures were taken prior to and during my tram ride at Pão de Açúcar (Sugar Loaf) in Rio de Janeiro. Although I can’t really stomach heights, from the top, the views of the favelas, Christ the Redeemer, and all of Rio’s rolling hills are stunning.

By rail…

Again, I had to think outside of the box for this one as my only memorable train travels were from Montreal to Quebec where the scenery was amazing. Sadly, my old laptop storing all of my images from that trip died from a virus. So instead, I’m presenting images from rush hour in Istanbul – a city that I recently raved about. Like sardines, Istanbulers cram onto the trams that run throughout the city. My words of advice before riding the trams in Istanbul – wear deodorant! Your neighbors will thank you!

By sea…

This is another picture that was taken in Brazil. On this particular day, we woke up at the crack of dawn to catch our bus from Paraty to Angra dos Reis a few hours away, and from there, we had to endure another few hours on a schooner to Ilha Grande, a remote island with some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Looking at this picture, I recall our giddiness as our boat approached Ilha Grande which gradually appeared in the distance, waiting there to welcome us to paradise!

Now I’m nominating some of the bloggers I follow (bloggers that I’ve recently met as well as some that I’ve been following for awhile) to join in the competition fun. So, The World is a Book, The Italian Backpacker, Traveling Solemates, Beyond Blighty, Travel Cake…you guys are up (if you so choose, of course)!

Read the rules for details on how to enter this competition.

What’s your favorite mode of travel?

  • Thank you for the nomination, Dana! I love all these forms of travel you presented. I hope to have some time to do this. It’s hard to pick a favorite mode but if I had to choose it would be by sea. There’s something so calming about sailing.

You’re very welcome, and no pressure to participate. I just enjoy your blog!

  • I found it coincidental that you took a picture of the rail stops schedule inside the tram. I took a similar picture in Paris. Oh and the body stench you inhaled while riding? Yup had the same experience in Paris PLUS body heat! LOL

    • Dana Carmel

Funk and body heat is NOT a good combo – lol! 😉

  • Thanks so much for the nomination! I have a few ideas! I think this will be fun! I loved reading your post and reliving my time in Brazil!

    • Dana Carmel

You’re welcome – you know I’m a fan of your photos!

  • Absolutely love your photos for the “by air” section. Good luck!

    Happy travels 🙂

    • Dana Carmel

Thanks, Lauren. You should give it a shot too!

  • My favorite mode of travel is by Jeep with my kid. Ok, that’s our only mode of travel ha ha! I’m sooooo excited for you to be in this competition, Dana, and great luck to you, my friend! I really liked the coastal pic outside of Tillamook. But, my favorite of these is where you are looking down on Rio from the tram. That’s a really good one! 🙂

Sounds good to me, Mike! I love road trips – especially when I don’t have to drive! 😉
